RobQuant Secures Innovate UK Grant to Develop Quantum Sensor Prototype

RobQuant is delighted to announce that it has secured an Innovate UK ‘Growth Catalyst Early Stage: New Innovators’ grant.

November 2025, Sheffield UK. The grant, which supports high-potential R&D projects, will allow RobQuant to fund the development of its next-generation, wearable quantum sensor prototype.

Current magnetoencephalography (MEG) technology, which measures brain activity, is limited to a few specialist centres. The equipment is large, expensive, and requires heavily shielded rooms, creating a significant bottleneck for neurological research and diagnostics.

Agnethe Seim Olsen, RobQuant’s Chief Technologist, explains the project’s technical approach:

“Our project will explore a new sensor design using diamond technology, with the aim of creating a device that is small enough to be embedded in comfortable fabric. We are working to integrate the necessary optical components into a solid-state chip. This approach could remove the need for hazardous high-power lasers and potentially make the sensor more efficient.”

The successful development of this prototype will be a key step in exploring the feasibility of a commercially viable, high-density MEG system. The project’s goal is to help make advanced brain imaging more accessible for understanding conditions like epilepsy and Alzheimer’s.

Our Chief Scientist, Dr. Joe Smith, says:

“We are very proud to receive this support from Innovate UK. This grant is a fantastic endorsement of our research direction. It provides the vital funding to accelerate this R&D project, allowing us to move from concept to prototype and rigorously test our design. We are excited to contribute to the UK’s quantum and healthcare sectors.”
